Alteryx For Mac

Alteryx is a Self-service data analytics tool. Alteryx makes the process of ETL easier. Alteryx is a super tool that combines the functionalities required for Data Preparation, Geo-Spatial Analytics, and Data Science. Alteryx has mainly 5 Data Types.

Alteryx Download and Install for Windows & Mac Step-by-Step Alteryx is the one super tool that combines the functionalities required for Data Preparation, Geo-Spatial Analytics, and Data Science. Alteryx is excellent in a Windows environment where you need to process data, especially on-premises data. It handles structured data well; it struggles with unstructured data. If you have a heterogenous environment with Mac and Linux workers, you will need to either provision dedicated hardware or use virtual machines in order to run Alteryx. Alteryx Inspire Europe 2017 is the official mobile app for Alteryx's user conference taking place in London, UK on 12-13 September 2017.

Data can be brought in Alteryx by using two tools;

  1. Auto Field tool – to select the data type automatically by Alteryx
  2. Select tool – the user decides the datatype

There are broadly 5 Alteryx Data Types

Alteryx consist of mainly 5 data types as follows,

Once the data is bought to Alteryx, the Alteryx Data Types is applied to the entire column and each value within it. Alteryx tends to use the best suitable data types for the data coming from databases or structured files such as excel within the Alteryx table. What is the Alteryx Data Types?

Let us understand the data types in Alteryx one by one:

1. String Data

String Data represents only text, even if the data is numeric or spaces or special characters. If a string consists of numbers, it is ideally advised to first convert to numeric type to perform further calculations. Generally, string data is the one that you want to keep as it is. String Data is further classified into 4 categories;

  • String
  • V_String
  • WString
  • V_String

String & WString are of fixed lengths; you have to set the predefined length o the string. WString can hold more international characters like Japanese or Chinese. V in V_String stands for variable; you do not have to set any predefined length, it adjusts itself according to the length, but it is not used often as it consumes time in processing and adjusting the length of the string.

Always set a high limit for the variable-length sting to avowing truncating of data. To set the variable length of the string is still suitable as it consumes the storage as per its requirement.

2. Numeric Data

Numeric Alteryx data types, as the name suggests, contains only numbers. It stores numbers like 01 for 1, 02 for 2 and so on but will represent them as a single digit. Numeric Datatypes are classified as follows;

  • Byte
  • Integer
  • Fixed Decimal
  • Float
  • Double

Byte and Integer are the whole numbers, whereas Fixed Decimal, Float, and Double include a decimal number. The byte is a small overall number, and Integer is for more significant numbers, and sizes are 16, 32, and 64. Fixed Decimal is used for currency and Float, and Double are used as the most precise numbers.

Float and Double are not good because when it comes to comparison, both are never equal. Float is generally used to save memory.

3. Date/Time Data

In Alteryx, the format for Date, Time, and Date and Time are fixed. You will need to do some manipulations on your data if it is not in the format, as generalized by Alteryx, to use it. Sometimes it is very difficult to work with dates and times; there is a great tool known as Date Time Macro that converts date and time in human-readable as well as Alteryx readable format. The format is as follows;

  • Date – “yyyy-mm-dd”
  • Time – “hh:mm:ss”
  • DateTime – “yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss”

4. Boolean Data

Bool represents a flag. Thus, it has only two possible values, either True or False.

  • ‘True’ = non-zero
  • ‘False’ = 0

5. Spatial Objects

Spatial Objects are used for mapping and are associated with maintaining data records. A point. Line. Polyline or polygon all comes under Spatial Objects and can be used for mapping.

In this article, we understood all the different types of Alteryx data types and their usage in detail. You can also learn such Alteryx Data Types and Objects with Alteryx Online Course

Before installing, verify that your system meets the System Requirements.

Licensing

To download and install Promote, you are required to have a valid license key (also known as QUAY credentials). You will need to contact your account executive, or Alteryx Fulfillment, in order to get these credentials before you can proceed.

Automated installation

Three servers are required to run Promote. For more information, see the System Requirements.

The automated installation is packaged into an .RPM binary file that you can install on the three servers to be used with Promote. The package installs a daemonized web server that you can interact with on port 8000 through a GUI. You are prompted to register (username and password are required, and are supplied by Alteryx Fulfillment) and then are taken through a series of steps to download and install Promote. When the process is finished (approximately 15 minutes), you are redirected to the Alteryx Promote registration page.

Extract the installation file

Alteryx For Mac Os

  1. Extract the Alteryx Promote installation file you obtained. Type:
  2. Navigate to the extracted Promote 2019.3.0 installation directory. Type:

Copy .RPM to servers

The .RPM file must be copied to each server in order to run the installer. For Windows users, we suggest a file transfer utility such as WinSCP, or the Linux subsystem shell if enabled in the OS. For Mac and Linux users, we recommend copying the file via SSH (secure shell).

  1. Ensure you have SSH access to the remote cluster with a key pair (see System requirements/SSH)
  2. Using SCP (secure copy protocol), copy the .RPM file to each node. Type:

Typing the colon after the IP address will send the file to the default user home directory. On a new CentOS 7 machine, the default home directory is /home/centos.

If you receive a permissions error from SCP, try specifying your SSH key. Type:

Install .RPM

  1. Install .RPM file on all three servers using a package manager. By default, CentOS uses Yum and RPM.
  2. Type:

Now that RPM is installed, you can view the installer GUI.

Welcome

The installer GUI guides you through the download and installation processes of Promote.

  1. Connect to port 8000 via the browser on the machine you will use as the master server. In the address bar type:
  2. Click Next to enter the server information.

Servers

  1. Enter the internal and external IP addresses of the three servers to be used for Promote.
  2. Click the radio button to designate the machine you are currently accessing the installer GUI from as the master server. If you want to select a different machine as the master server, close your window and begin again using new machine’s respective IP to load the installer GUI.
  3. Click Next to enter the Registry Credentials used for accessing the Promote registry.
If you do not have a different external IP address, enter them both as the same IP. The field cannot be left blank.

Credentials

  1. Locate your registry credentials (provided by Alteryx Fulfillment) and copy and paste them into the appropriate fields.
  2. Click Next to enter the System Requirements.
